Christmas Services

Join Us At The "Barn" For Christmas

Like many families, part of your Christmas decorating may include setting up a tabletop nativity set -- tiny ceramic or wood figures depicting what the first Christmas may have looked like. But have you ever wondered what those little figures do when you’re not looking? This year’s play, titled “Nativity Story”, finally answers that question!

It’s Christmas Eve, and as soon as the last light is turned off for the night, the figurines from a mantelpiece nativity spring to life, exhausted from another long season of acting out the scene of Jesus’ birth. They don’t know it yet, but their little community is about to be turned upside-down when a collection of new Christmas toys from under the tree wanders into their midst. And when one of the characters turns up missing, the tension between the Toys and the Nativities really heats up. Will they be able to put aside their differences and work together to solve the mystery? Join us and find out!

Join us at Kaw Prairie Community Church to see "Nativity Story" on the following days/times:

Friday, Dec. 23: 7 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 24: 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

The Background

The Kaw Prairie barn service is a sacred thing-- but a sacred thing on the move-- kind of like Jesus' birth was!  It's always been aimed at being playful and kid-friendly at the front end, but more sacred and serious as the hour moved along--a balance of family-fun and family-memories in a hundred-year-old barn full of farm-family and community memories itself.

But since the Kill Creek Barn was destroyed in a micro burst last year, we are gathering once again at the church building and trying to conjure up the same experience. We'll even have animals and bales of hay for us to sit on to remind us of that barn we miss so much. Because we'd like to get back to the barn by next year, all donations received will go toward the rebuilding effort.

Rebuilding The Barn

The efforts to rebuild the Kill Creek Barn, located at K-10 and Kill Creek Road, after it was destroyed in a micro burst last year are ongoing. It's an effort that is near and dear to Kaw Prairie Community Church's heart because we've had our Christmas Eve services there in years past. In fact, our very first Christmas Eve service was held there and it's become such a tradition for us Kaw Prairiers that we can't help but refer to our Christmas services as the "Barn" services.

Because of this love we've developed for an old-fashioned Christmas service held in a barn reminiscent of the environment where Jesus was born, we are supporting the effort to rebuild that beloved barn. All offering collected at the Christmas services will be given to the Kill Creek Barn Fund. And we hope to be back in the barn next year!

Memories From Barn Services Past

Christmas Morning

After all of the excitement of the "Barn" Services, we'd like to invite you and yours to join us Christmas morning for a special service. We will gather at 10 a.m. at the church to celebrate the day. It will be a short and simple service designed for the whole family. Pastor Dan has a special drama prepared and all of the children are invited to sing "Joy to the World" with worship director German Portillo and the worship band.
