Decyfer Down

If there were a music industry award for a tireless, endless work ethic and perseverance throughout trying times, it would unequivocally go to Columbia/INO Records' Decyfer Down. The North Carolina-bred band toured endlessly through the front half of this decade, opening for national bands such as Crossfade, Breaking Benjamin and Theory of a Dead Man. Add in "Fight Like This," a charting active rock single, which was featured as a promotional song for Ultimate Fighting Championship, and the aggressive outfit is certainly entering an ascending chapter of its burgeoning career.

Their music is an interesting, personalized take on the recent emergence of rock informed by 80’s synth-pop. Satellites & Sirens is full of songs that artfully balance the electronic buzz of synthesizers with modern rock guitars over the top of interesting grooves.

“I think it makes people our age like feel like a kid again,” says Dimmel, commenting on the rise of the synthesizer from its technicolored grave. “It brings us back to things that we enjoyed when we were kids—like the Nintendo-type sounds and the 80’s pop, Michael Jackson beats. All these things that make us think of when we were kids.”
