There might be a chill in the air, but the hearts at Kaw Prairie Community Church in Lenexa are warm.
Kaw Prairie holds an annual All Church Serve Day in an effort to reach out to those in need in the Kansas City Metro.
Last year, approximately 200 volunteers dressed in their grubbies, grabbed a sack lunch packed by church’s little ones and headed out to several locations across town.
A few dozen volunteers went to three homes in the Ivanhoe Neighborhood in Kansas City, Mo., and painted, put up trim and siding and stained a deck. The elderly men and women living in the homes expressed their gratitude for the help because they were unable to do the work themselves.
Another large group of Kaw Prairians helped out at Metro Lutheran Ministry stocking the food pantry, packing boxes of blankets for the Christmas Store and putting together Thanksgiving meal bags.
Families with younger kids weren’t left out of the day’s fun. They stayed behind at the church and did some sprucing up.
All-in-all, the members of the congregation spent the day with smiles on their faces and made a big impact on the community.
