Navigating the Road: Curvy Road Ahead
Though the life of Moses is explained in great detail throughout the book of Exodus, on Sunday we looked at the brief passage in Hebrews that is known as the "hall of faith."
In Hebrews 11:23-28, the author tells us how Moses is a hero — not because of his strategic thinking or his cunning mindset, but because of his trust in God.
As we continued our sermon series, navigating the many roads of life, we looked at Moses and the curvy roads that he encountered on his journeys. Along with Moses, we considered the journey of Odysseus in Homer's The Odyssey and portrayed by Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan's new movie of the same name.
But no matter how similar the lives of Odysseus and Moses might be, they are also vastly different. The perseverance of both men is impressive, but where they play their trust is the contrast that is most helpful for us and our own curvy roads.
Though Odysseus was a cunning, brilliant, strong leader — and that's where his trust laid — Moses put his trust in something much, much bigger, and something he couldn't even see: God.
Though Moses was certainly concerned with his journey, he set his eyes on what was beyond the road, his God that was and is present at every turn, every obstacle, every roadblock.
