Rock Bottom: Presence
This Sunday, we spent time in Psalm 40, where the psalmist recounts God’s presence and faithfulness in the midst of the rock bottom moments of their life, and leans on the trust built between them as they face another period of challenge and uncertainty. Pastor Clare shared the powerful testimony of one of the people the youth served alongside in their time in Birmingham, as well as the testimony of God’s presence and faithfulness with that community in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s an 60’s. If you missed it, you can catch Pastor Clare’s sermon, as well as the other youth and adult participants sharing about their experiences on the mission trip in the video linked below.
As you move into this week, take time to reflect on how God has been present to you in your past, and how that faithfulness can fuel your trust in God as you look to the future. Do this for your individual life but having just celebrated 250 years of this nation’s life, also consider the same questions when thinking about our country’s history. How has God been present in our nation’s own rock bottom moments, and how can God’s past presence and faithfulness help us to trust God as we look to the future?
